I'm fairly new to the droning world. I was initially exposed to drones from a previous relationship I was in. During that time, I was quite frightened to fly his drone. I actually wanted nothing to do with it. I knew if I needed an aerial shot, I could just ask him. It wasn't until recently that I was inspired to buy and learn to fly a drone for my trip to Asia, but more specifically my hike on the Great Wall of China. That's right- my need to document my trip in a different way was so important to me that I bought a drone. What I did not know was that I would fall in love if not become obsessed with flying my Mavic Pro. I've been flying for a little over three weeks now and I am hooked. After flying over the Great Wall of China, I realized that having the ability to capture such stunning footage and images from above, for me, has pushed the limits of video creativity to a whole new level. I now view and think about video differently and how I want to tell a story. In addition to my new found hobby, I have realized that not many women are flying drones and not to my surprise, it is a male dominated activity. I recently joined womenanddrones.com, a community of female drone pilots, which I think is pretty amazing. Although they are fairly new and just getting started, it's extremely empowering to know that there is an up and coming community of female drone pilots for women like me. I have included my most recent video of my hike on the Great Wall of China that includes the footage I captured with my drone. Hope you enjoy it and don't forget to subscribe!

So, I bought a drone. Not sure if I told you, but I'm going on my first trip to Asia and I want to shoot aerial footage. I bought the GoPro Karma, which came with the GoPro 5 Black, GoPro Karma Grip and the backpack and controller although you can buy them all separately as well (check out my unboxing video the package here). I thought it was a pretty good deal as a package coming in at $1192.42. If you really think about it, that's not a bad deal, but this really wasn't my only reasoning behind buying a drone. So, I put together three reason why I bought a drone.
You Feel Like You Have Wings 1. Who doesn't wish they could fly? In a sense, flying a drone is almost like you have wings of your own. Without the scariness and all the education you need to be a real plane pilot, flying a drone almost gives you the same feeling of being a pilot without actually having to get certified, except with A LOT more flexibility. Tell A Different Story 2. My second reason is if you're a filmmaker or video enthusiast like me, a drone will give you the ability to capture a shot for your video that will add so much more value and appreciation to and for your project. I must also say that you will feel pretty proud of the drone footage you shoot considering this type of footage was not easy to obtain not too long ago. Affordability 3. Back in the day when you were just beginning to document your travels or say your life... I don't think many people thought they'd ever be able to fly their camera in the air at a cheap price. Maybe you don't have $1200 lying around to buy a drone, however, if you do and you're thinking about buying your next camera gadget, this should be your answer. But don't take my word for it. Go buy one and see for yourself. If you hate it, most places have a 30-day return policy on it, even unboxed. There is one thing for sure, there's no doubt you will be proud of the drone footage you shoot! Let me know if you have any questions about my experience with a drone.
